Refresh and Rejuvenate

Wood MediSpa offers a complete range of non-surgical procedures.

Patient safety and satisfaction are the cornerstones of our practice at Wood MediSpa and we strongly believe that patients should be in full possession of the facts surrounding their proposed treatment. Information about non-surgical options are provided below.

Botulinum Toxin Injections

Botulinum toxin is commercially available as Botox® or Dysport®. However, these injections are commonly referred to as ‘Botox injections’ whichever product is actually used. Botulinum toxin is produced by bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. Several types of toxins have been identified, but type A, which is used commercially, is the most potent. Botox acts by blocking acetylcholine, a chemical that is responsible for transmitting electrical impulses that cause muscle contraction. This results in muscle paralysis.

Botox usually takes effect 24-72 hours after injection, with maximum effect at about 1 to 2 weeks. Its effects generally last for approximately 3-4 months. These injections can be used to improve facial symmetry, for example in patients with Bell’s Palsy.

When injected into the muscles that are responsible for expression wrinkles, it gives the face a more relaxed and smoother appearance. It can also be used to treat excessive sweating in the armpits, in which case Botox is injected directed into the axillary skin.

It must be noted that whilst Botox can be very effective in reducing wrinkles that are present due to muscle contractions, it will not reduce the fine lines that are caused by sun damage, and lines that are caused by lost elasticity and sagging of facial skin.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can go some way towards restoring volume, filling deep lines, wrinkles and folds and redefining lips by replacing the collagen lost due to natural ageing or skin damage.

We offer a range of premium dermal fillers including Radiesse® and Juvéderm®; each has different properties. Your consultant will suggest the dermal filler most appropriate for you.

Dermal filler treatment helps to plump up your skin and smooth out lines and wrinkles. For lips and facial contours, the filler adds volume, and restores shape. Most dermal filler treatments last between six to twelve months.

Mole or Skin Tag Removal

Mole removal can be carried out as a sole procedure which can be performed under local anaesthetic with a small incision or by curettage (gently shaving away). If you are having another surgical treatment, but you have a mole that has always bothered you, if you mention this to your consultant, it is likely that mole removal can be combined with other procedures.

Vascular Laser - Veins

Mr Simon Ashley, Consultant Vascular Surgeon of The Vein Clinic, performs most of our vascular laser treatments and has a special interest in the treatment of varicose veins. Please click here for more information on these procedures.

CO2 Laser - Skin

The CO2 Laser in ablative mode remains absolutely unparalleled as a game changer for deep lines/wrinkles and acne scarring. It removes all but the deepest layers of skin in a precise and controlled way and necessitates a recovery of 10 to 14 days.

Small areas of the face can be treated under local anaesthetic however larger areas are best treated under general anaesthesia. Sometimes it is possible to combine laser resurfacing with surgical facelift. Suitability for laser resurfacing treatments will be assessed at consultation.

Chemical Peels

We offer chemical peels of different depths for different purposes. Our mostly commonly used peels are TCA (trichloroacetic acid 20%) and phenol which are intermediate and deep peeling agents respectively. Healing time is 7 days for TCA and 10-14 days for phenol.
